WHAT EXACTLY IS RUGBY?

Rugby is a full contact evalsion sport where EVERY player on the field has the ability to run, pass, kick and score throughout the match. It is unique in that it requires players of all body types, sizes, skills and abilities to round out a team. Rugby is also the perfect complement to the regular school-sponsored sports of basketball, football, soccer and wrestling.  The sport of Rugby is played in over 100 countries across the globe and is known for its high standards of sportsmanship, ethical play, behaviour, and respect for opponents and referees in an age where many traditional sporting qualities are being diluted. 

There are currently 6 youth rugby clubs across the state located in Bozeman (Gallatin Wranglers), Billings (Yellowstone Mavericks), Great Falls (Cascade Chargers), Helena (Helena Hydra), Missoula (Missoula Stampede), the Flathead Valley (Flathead Black and Blue) - these 6 teams fall under the perview and governing body of the Montana Youth Rugby Union (MYRU).  Each club is run entirely by volunteers who desire to do positive things for kids through rugby.  We also work with the Montana Institute of Sport to help bring the sport of Rugby to local schools via hands-on learning, curriculum and instruction presented during traditional Physical Education classes. 

Rugby is played at the junior high, high school, collegiate , semi-pro and professional levels in the US and abroad. The opportunity for play post high school is very possible - many schools have offered and provided collegiate scholarships to many of our former players. In just the past two seasons our club has been able to help secure collegiate scholarships for ALL of our graduating female athletes that have wanted to continue playing at the collegiate level as well as handful of our male athletes.
